THE END
I wanted to put my storytelling/narrative songwriting skills into practice, and decided to create a song dedicated to my grandparents. When I was creating this song, I wanted to include some things that I couldn't really manage to do with my last narrative/storytelling song, 8-15-03 and unlike my previous narrative song that I made, this one has a more settled chorus that reinstates itself between every 3-4 verses of the song, and a concluding verse that reflects the initiating statement verse of the song where my grandma makes some beans in her hometown for her and my grandpa to enjoy. The English translation will be at the bottom of the lyrics tab for you to read. Unlike my first attempt of making a narrative/storytelling song, I feel like this one is more catchy and it makes sense! The only down side is that the melody of the chorus is very influenced by a mariachi song called, "No me se rajar" by Vicente Fernandez in which I need to fix. What do you guys think?
Verse 1:
I wanna know his intention whether or not he likes me o anda en otras ondas.
They say beware of them players who like to mess with your feelings
Chorus:
Please look into my eyes and tell me at honest sight if you're a man to love me
Chorus:
Please look into my eyes and tell me at honest sight if you're a man to love me
Pre-Chorus:
Chorus:
Please look into my eyes and tell me at honest sight if you're a man to love me
Chorus:
Please look into my eyes and tell me at honest sight if you're a man to love me
I took the dating advice given from the matriarchs of my family (passed from my great grandma, grandma and mom,) and converted it into a cowboy styled cumbia song (aka a Cumbia Norteña).
Verse 1:
Me agarra y quedo envenenada - ay
Dentro de a poco quedo enviciada del -
Veneno de su amor
Verse 2:
Se me hace muy extraño este bailecito
Me da de su calor
yo junto a el pegadito
Y yo bien enganchada
No quiero caer en esta trampa
Toda mi vida he logrado huyendo de este obstáculo peor!
Chorus:
Y aunque me siento amada
Me pongo el traje de batalla
Yo no puedo caer en esa trampa
Que me esta conquistando el corazón!
(Chorus)
Ending verse:
Me agarra y quedo envenenada - ay
(English Translation)
Verse 1:
How must it feel very nice when they give you - their affection
He grabs my hand towards his neck as we are dancing slowly as we sway around.
And within his magic
It gets to me and I feel the poison
and within a bit I get addicted to
the poison of his love
Verse 2:
There's something pretty strange about the way we're dancing
He gives me some of his warmth; I tag along as we're dancing
And as I'm hooked towards him
I can't fall into the trap falling for it
All of my life I was always able to escape that worst obstacle
Chorus:
Oh - save me from this obstacle
Because it's like a never ending battle
of where I encounter with the obstacle
I'm fighting against the obstacle
running away from that obstacle to save my heart
And I manage to run away from that obstacle in order to save my heart.
Verse 3:
How must it feel very nice when you receive the sweet talk
In when he wispers to my ear warming me up with that sweet talk
And though I'm so up for it
I fear that he'll soon be deceiving
I've never had the experience of what it's like to have a heart touching love
Verse 4:
It seems real strange to me that he talks to me consistently
And every time I think of him; I let out that - sigh.
And though I feel all that loving
I put my armor of battle to fight against it
I shouldn't fall into the trap towards the feeling that he's conquering my heart
(Chorus)
How must it feel very nice when they give you - their affection
He gives me some of his warmth I just stand there like a statue
And within his magic
It gets to me and I feel the poison
Will it be better if I'm able to run away from that darn obstacle?
Verse1:
I once had my questions
I once had my doubts and
I had no assurance
Was lost in the faith..
Verse 2:
Then you've shown your presence
I was enlightened (I saw your light then)
To know I'm forgiven
I'm saved by your grace
So I lift my hands giving you praise (IV-V)
Chorus:
I give praise to you Lord (4(2)x)
Verse1:
Everyday is a rush and we're running to get there on time (I better)
Keep my energy high to increase these expectations of mine (I better)
Pre Chorus:
Work Harder
Run Faster
Think Smarter
Be Wiser
Pre-Choral Verse:
Gotta reach to the traffic hour before I get left out behind (I Better)
Pre Chorus:
Work Harder
Run Faster
Think Smarter
Be Wiser
Pre-Choral Verse:
Gotta defeat the rush hour but the traffic's got me spinning around
Chorus:
Got me spinning around...
Verse 2:
Getting loaded with more work I'm running on coffee just to keep me alive (I have to)
Deal with stressor by stressor to complete this task and have it turned in on time (I'm working)
Pre-Chorus 2:
Day by Day
Time by Time
Week by Week (I gotta)
Get to the grind
Pre-Choral verse:
It's a never ending story
and once I am done
there's always more to come by (I'm working)
Pre-Chorus 2:
Day by Day
Time by Time
Week by Week (I gotta)
Get to the grind
Pre-Choral Verse:
It's a never ending story to face
and the caffeine's got me spinning around
Chorus:
Got me Spinning around...
Here's full version rough-draft of a verse and chorus I created a year ago that talks about the everyday stressful life of adulthood.
Thought of how college life can be hectic at time, and placed it into a song, with the irony of using calm, relaxing Lo-fi vibe music with the lyrics talking about being in a rush all the time.
(Verse)
Everyone's in a rush and we're running to get there on time I better----
keep the energy high to increase these expectations of mine I gotta
(Chorus)
Work harder, run faster, think smarter, be wiser
(Verse)
Gotta reach to the finish line before I get left out behind I gotta
(Chorus)
Work harder, run faster, think smarter, be wiser.
(Verse)
Gotta defeat the rush hour but the traffics got me spinning around
(Got me spinning around oh, it's got me spinning around) 2x improv until end...
(English Version on the bottom...)
Verse:
Sola, sola no siempre quiero estar asÃ
Sola, sola no siempre quiero estar asÃ;
Mejor prefiero estar sola. Vivir, bailar gozar sola.
(English)
Verse:
Lonely, with no one who would dare be close to me
Lonely, lonely is not what I'd always want to be
In an event and I'm lonely, and during lunch I am lonely
Lonely, lonely is not what I'd always want to be
I'd want to-spend my time with somebody finally
With someone and not be lonely, with a group and not be lonely
Pre chorus:
But with this sour timidness, and with this mentality so introverted, they don't let me socialize, and here I stand alone for another while
In wanting to connect; enjoy my time with someone, and I want to break the ice, but the cat will grab my tongue and here I am standing all alone
Chorus:
Over here, over there I' moving with the rhythm if somebody's noticed me but they won't even notice me a bit
Over here, over there the introvert inside me; I cannot even connect; it happened; I don't hang with no one!
and so I'd rater be lonely, to dance; enjoy and live lonely
This song talks about the difficulties an introvert faces when trying to socialize with people.
I went back to my grade school years, and even last year; Freshman year of my college where I would try to socialize with people around me but I just felt plain awkward in doing so. Therefore, I would mostly be the loner child in school for I find it so hard to break the ice, meet new people, and always be with a group of friends.
I also grew up with my mom listening to cumbias, and I even dance to it all the time during my family's celebrations and events. Really loving the grooving and rhythmic sound of the Cumbia that lies beneath my Mexican/Hispanic roots, I've been longing to make a Cumbia song that feels perfect to me and therefore, I felt like I did. Not only is it danceable, but can be relatable too.

Prefiero, estar solita sin el drama aqui.
Mejor calmada y sola, mejor tranquila y estar sola

I'd rather. be by myself and keep the drama away.
It's best to be calm and lonely, it's best to be chill and lonely,
Pre Chorus:
But the party is really lit, and this environment is entertaining,
I can't help myself anymore, I have to figure out what is out there more
And I want to now join in and crash the party, and what if they invite me into the dance floor? It's best that I don't care about what they're doing, I've always been real good about being in a party.

Here's the FINAL draft of my full song!. This is one of my first songs I have completed, and is based off of one of my verse and choruses I've created throughout last fall of 2022. Now it can be found under Spotify, Tiktok, Instagram, Youtube and all other music streaming platforms under the name of G'SEL and on Apple Music under the name of, "Gsel" with the white ducky icon. Hope you enjoy!.
The Mountain
Verse 1:
Among the Earth, life just feels a little heavy, from where to start and where to go-if I'd climb from the ground to the peak? Will I ever make it to the peak?.
(Though)I feel you strength, feel the deepness of you power, You light me up when I'm clueless ‘bout how my life is going to be, you're the one I look up to you see?
Chorus:
As I climb the mountain, climbing all with my might, who said this was easy!? But I can't give up easy.
Life can be a struggle, but the future is so bright; you guide me with your starlight ,I put my faith in you Christ!
Christ the lord will guide my soul.
Verse 3:
I'm over here and I'm climbing up the mountain, and within all of my strength,I'm gonna reach to the top and I'll see, the beauty that you've provided for me
As I keep climbing things just get a little heavy, I can't look down onto the ground I have to look at the top and I'll see the future that you've provided for me
(Chorus)
The End
Our Professor, Adam Watts has set us to discover the vibes of his background track and make a song about it. Then when he played it in front of class, I started to feel the vibes of going to church and listening to the worship music being played out there, yet the bass kick of the drums kinda sounded like if someone is struggling, to reach to the top. That's when I came to the conclusion of making a worship song that talks about being in doubt of our struggle in life and looking up to Jesus Christ whom he has the answers to our plan in life.

She originally started as a Violist, playing classical pieces in an orchestra from 5th grade until High School. By the time she got to college, Espinoza auditioned to a music school that happened to lure her into focus more on her vocal abilities towards contemporary music. That was when Espinoza decided to give her orchestral skills a break, and focus more on her contemporary side of her musical abilities and practices.
Espinoza's music influences vary from many diverse genres: Regional Mexican, Latin, Musica Tropical, Jazz, Funk, R&B, and Pop. Espinoza says that as she increases her knowledge in becoming a songwriter, she would still experiment with diverse genres on songwriting, but she would mainly want to represent the people of her Latin American heritage, especially her Mexican heritage. During every family reunion event, Espinoza practices and rehearses Mariachi pieces with her violin, guitar and voice to help entertain her family. Like some Chicano artists (let's say Selena Quintanilla and Jenni Rivera to name a few), she hopes to become a public image to the people of Mexico and the Chicano culture here in the USA experimenting with infusing genres of the Latinx culture and can also sound authentic to an actual Mexican-living-in-Mexico's ear.
