Hector Gabriel
Verse 1
I hear You say it'll be ok
But I can't seem to see a way through
I hear a song in a distant place
Your melodies they comfort me
With the memories of all You've brought me through
Chorus
I'm holding on
To the promise on the other side
I'm looking through the storm
To the promise on the other side
I'm not letting go
‘Cause Father You are my hope
I'm holding on
To the promise on the other side
Verse 2
With each breath I am filled with peace
As the underscore of heaven plays on
I'm singing back with the words You sing to me
My harmonies, they join with You
As the sound of praise leads to my victory
Post Chorus
Ooh
Ooh
Ooh
Ooh

Joy is coming with
New horizons and
I will make it
I will make it through the storm
But if I stay here
God I know You're near
You will never
You will never let me go

I'm trusting
I won't let go

(Think of it like this: if you could only listen to 5 songs for the rest of your life, which 5 songs would you choose?). NOTE: By definition, a song = a piece of music with vocals, lyrics and music.1. Ordinary People by John Legend
-The first song that really helped me see my lane as an artist and inspired me to write more music.
2. Waited All My Life by Raul Midón
-This was the song that my wife walked down the isle to on our wedding day.
3. Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst-Kendrick Lamar
-Amazing example of storytelling and empathy.
4. Stop This Train-John Mayer
-This makes me think of my parents. An amazing song with lines that really catch the melancholy heart.
5. Memories-Maroon 5
-Was played in honor of Kobe when he passed away and immediately brings my heart back to being a present husband and father when I hear it.
List the Top 5 songs you wish you'd written, and one reason why for each. (Any reason is viable!).
1. Yesterday by The Beatles
-I love the complexity of the chord progression while still being singable, memorable, digestible by the general public, and popular! I also appreciate very much how universal the song is. "Yesterday" is so broad, but yet people experience it so personal. Great song.
2. If It's Magic by Stevie Wonder
-I really admire the timelessness of this lyric. The principle and value communicated is just as relevant today, if not MORE, than when it was originally released. I also respect the intentionality if writing a song which is literally about LOVE, without using the word. Powerful song.
3. God Only Knows by The Beach Boys
-The harmonic complexity in this this song is inspiring. But what is even more inspiring is how the melody is tucked nice and neatly within it. The melody and progression are forever married and one might find it hard to imagine them fitting any other way. Also, it's a very pure and innocent love song. I think it really captures the young heart that's in love.
4. Quiet Uptown by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton)
-I loved this song before I even saw the musical... And after seeing it live, I absolutely love it even more. I love it because it does an incredible job at telling a story, REALLY bringing the listener in, and still being able to, very clearly, "preach" the message and heart of the song... which is forgiveness. It yanks the heart strings and provokes thought. Very moving.
5. Others by Israel Houghton
-This is the song I wish every church would sing. Before I heard this song, I didn't truly understand or see the power of how a song could convict; specifically in the church. I think Israel Houghton crafted this song very will to bring the listener in to a specific heart place. For me, he takes the listener all the way home at the bridge, when he quotes Jesus' words. Very good song.
List what you believe are the Top 5 Greatest Songs Ever Written, and one reason why for each.
1. What's Going On by Marvin Gaye
-It was a song that spoke to the hearts across America, coming out of a time of war and is still relevant today.
2. Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel
-This is a song that can be covered in many different genres and have an impact across many cultural lines.
3. On Bended Knee by Boyz II Men
-Just a good song. :). Will never get old for me. Was bumping it on cassette tape as a little kid in my headphones.
4. Because You Loved Me
-The melody is flawless with a message that is so universal even Christians could sing it to God.
5. Yesterday by The Beatles
-For many reasons, but one of them is that it can be related to by almost anyone.
