Crawl

Story behind the song:

THE SONG: Christ always takes us back no matter how far we've strayed. It's almost a cliche' notion... when I write that it feels like I'm writing someone else's words... something I've heard in sermons countless times... doesn't make it any less true, though... thankfully:)

THE RECORDING: Well, it's been awhile... but I remember a few things. THE DRUMS: My Gretsch kit... I've had it since 1985. It's amazing. The snare is this one I have that has one of those wood top rims... has a certain kind of attack to it... THE GUITARS: These rhythm guitars are the Tophat Emplexador... Andy Dodd's old standby amp... I used his Strat on this (a guitar I rarely use these days)... it had this great virtual vintage pickup in the bridge position... a nice semi-dirty tone... THE BASS: Good old Nic! Probably on his Mile Lull bass... but maybe a Fender Jazz Bass...

Back in these days I was using a Neumann TLM 103 on the vocals and somewhere during this album I had bought the U47... I used API mic pres on a lot of stuff.... the Avalon 737 on the vocal and probably the room miss on the drums.

I also remember using the 1176 plugin as my compressor of choice then.

All of this went out an SSL Bus Compressor and through Apogee conversion.
