Getting better... slowly but surely... it's been a hell of a couple years.
This song is one of my favorites on this album... I really enjoy bringing together the meaning/emotion of the song and having it represented in ways that scratch every itch in me musically as well.... but without it being forced... For me that means using melody, harmony, rhythm, words, sonics in adventurous ways to convey something that matters to me... this song came together in that way... there's a metric modulation into the chorus... I wanted a halftime groove for the chorus... but "normal" halftime was too slow and draggy... so I found a way to keep the energy, and make it all flow together by making the dotted 8th note the "new" 1/4 note for the chorus... then it comes back for verse 2... and back again for the bridge... programming this tempo change/modulation in Protools took some math!
